A West Virginia man has been sentenced to five years in prison for fatally shooting a neighbor who sprayed insecticide at him during an argument.

News outlets report Randall Douglas Woods, 63, of Clendenin, was sentenced Wednesday in Kanawha County Circuit Court.

He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the 2017 death of David Elmore Jr., 31.

The shooting happened in August 2017 along Laurel Fork Road in Charleston.

Investigators say Randall Woods got into an argument with David Elmore, who was killed. According to deputies, Elmore sprayed woods with bug spray, and that's when Woods took out a pistol and shot at Elmore.

Deputies say Woods drove home, called 911 and waited on investigators to get there. Another person was also injured in the shooting. Woods' trial is set for Jan. 28.

A man accused of killing another man after being sprayed with bug spray will remain behind bars until his trial.

Randall Woods pleaded not guilty in court on Wednesday. His attorney asked for a bond reduction but it was denied.

Woods is charged with murder and malicious wounding in connection to the shooting that happened in August.

Kanawha County deputies say David Elmore sprayed Woods with bug spray, that's when they say Woods shot him.

They say Woods then drove home, called 911 and waited for investigators to arrive.

Woods' trial is scheduled for April 9.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man who faces a murder charge in a shooting earlier this summer will continue to be held in jail after a request to lower his bond was denied Thursday.

Randall Woods is charged with first-degree murder and malicious wounding in connection with the shooting, which happened in August.

Deputies say the victim sprayed Woods with bug spray, and that's when Woods allegedly shot him.

They say Woods then drove home, called 911 and waited for investigators to arrive.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- More details have been released in a double shooting Wednesday that left a man dead after a neighborhood dispute in Clendenin, including the names of those involved.

Randall Douglas Woods, 62, of Clendenin, is charged with first-degree murder and malicious wounding, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

Killed in the shooting was David Elmore Jr., 31, of Clendenin. Cora Mae Elmore, 31, of Clendenin, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The shooting happened about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday during a dispute in the roadway in the 4200 block of Laurel Fork Road.

Investigators say Woods was on an ATV and ended up firing a pistol into a pickup truck that contained the Elmores. A third family member was in the cab of the pickup at the time.

Deputies say another neighbor was arguing with Woods from his own yard during the event. At one point, deputies say Elmore sprayed Woods with bug spray, and Woods proceeded to take a pistol and fire it into the truck.

The pickup was driven a short distance away, and Woods drove the opposite direction on his ATV. Woods called 911 from his home and waited on investigators to arrive.

Woods is expected to be arraigned Wednesday evening.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Deputies say one man is dead and another is in custody after a double shooting in Kanawha County.

According to deputies, two people were shot in the incident. The other person shot was taken to the hospital.

Deputies tell WSAZ the shooter waited for deputies to arrive.

The shooting happened in the 4200 block of Laurel Fork Road Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies tell WSAZ it was a dispute between neighbors.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Kanawha County Deputies are on the scene of a reported double shooting.

Metro 911 Dispatchers say two people were shot on the 4200 block of Laurel Fork Road in the Dutch Ridge area.

It happened just after 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

No word on the condition of either victim.

WSAZ has a crew headed to the scene.
