The PedWest San Ysidro pedestrian border crossing opened in July 2016. The new pedestrian bridge and crossing facility is located just west of the southbound vehicle El Chaparral crossing and has 14 lanes—12 northbound and 2southbound. PedWest is meant to supplement the original pedestrian crossing east of the northbound vehicle crossing lanes at San Ysidro. The original eastern pedestrian crossing currently hasreduced lanes while construction is taking place to build a new facilitywhich will open in 2019.
The U.S. side of the facility leaves pedestrians in the new Virginia Avenue Transit Center, next to the Las Americas outlet mall. Here, pedestrians can take a bus (or a 10-minute walk)back over to the San Ysidro trolley stop and San Ysirdo port of entry where the southbound pedestrian crossing is located (and the old eastern northbound pedestrian crossing).
The entrance for the northbound PedWest bridge is just north of Plaza Viva Tijuana, accessed by Colonia Federal (recommended) or by walking over the bridge from the Plaza de Artesanias. See our MAP for the exact location (GPS: 32.54038, -117.03229).
The PedWest southbound lanes are accessed on the U.S. side from Virginia Avenue, right next to Plaza Las Americas mall.
The San Diego Union Tribune has a helpful videothat shows the easiest way to get to and use to the PedWest facility.
DBTC Insider Tips:
-PedWest is open 6am-10pm for southbound crossing,24/7 for northbound crossing
-There are Ready Lane and SENTRI lanes at PedWest
-Follow signs for USA and “Peatonal Oeste”
-Be aware of pickpockets in this area as you are walking to the PedWest bridge on the Mexico side. Watch your belongings and be aware of your surroundings. There is a heavy police force patrolling the area, and you should feel free to ask them for help or to approach them if you are having a problem.
-There is a car drop-off area right next to the pedestrian entrance that can be reached by accessing Colonia Federal and turning just north of Plaza Viva Tijuana.

Hi Chuck, there’s a car drop off spot right next to the entrance to the PedWest bridge. You’ll turn on the street just north of Plaza Viva Tijuana in Colonial Federal. Her U.S. passport is all she needs to show at the border. The current wait time can be seen under San Ysidro PedWest on the CBP website for border wait times: https://bwt.cbp.gov/index.html

What is cost in pesos or US to cross?
Discover Baja says:

It’s a regular border crossing regulated by the CBP so the cost is free for PedWest

Can you cross as a pedestrian south, into Mexico, from US, using Ped West?
If so, is there some where to park and cross from there?

The southbound crossing lanes for PedWest are not open yet. The facility is currently open for northbound crossings only.

Border Station Parking (4570 Camino De La Plaza) is a great option right across the street from PedWest. Rates are about US$25 per day.

I will be crossing at PedWest for the first time (usually use the other one) but was wondering if there is public transportation near by. Trying to get to San Diego Airport. Thank you

Hi Becky, you can catch the San Diego Trolley which will take you downtown (but not directly to the airport). Otherwise, many people use Uber to get from the border to the airport.

Hi, was wondering on Becky’s question about getting back to san diego airport from Border. Is it difficult to figure out where to wait for the Uber driver, or is there a clear milestone where they want you to wait?

Right when you exit the PedWest facility, there is a circular driveway where taxis and ubers congregate.

Both myself and my car are registered via global entry but I will have 3 individuals in my car without global entry. I was hoping to drop them off to cross on foot, use sentry to cross in my car, and then pick them up on the other side to avoid the long car lines. Is PedWest just pedestrians or is there a Sentri lane for cars too? Thanks in advance for the response.

PedWest is just a pedestrian crossing. You can drop off your passengers at PedWest and then will need to drive over to the regular San Ysidro vehicle crossing to access the SENTRI lane.

My Question is ,has anyone used this as a drop off for pickup on the US side for none Sentri card holders ?

The new PedEast crossing is opening August 15th (same location, but new facility with more lanes) and should be very easy and fast to use.
