Journal E-mail: 377-1112 Editorial JOANN www.lsj.com KLEIN Assistant JANUARY 4B SUNDAY 1, 2012 FUNERALS Margaret Marie "Marge" Hotchkiss Grand Ledge Age 88, our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on December 28, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was born October 5, 1923 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to the late Isaac and 1 Freda Monsour, and married the late Robert Hotchkiss on June 16, 1946. She worked as an operator for the State Police Post in Lansing during the early fifties, and then went to work at General Telephone Company for the remainder of her career until retiring in 1983. She excelled at her job and won numerous awards as top salesperson. She was always active participating in bowling, bingo, weekly poker games with friends, and activities for St.

Michael Church Altar Society, Guild and school. Everyone in the family and along with many friends have a crocheted blanket or other item made with her loving hands. Margaret loved her time at Lake Montcalm with family wonderful friends, and retirement winters in North Carolina. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and funny faces, her strength and independence, and her truly generous and loving nature. She was an incredible role model for her family.

She is survived by daughters Debbie (Doug) McDaniels and Kathy (Kim) Spalsbury, grandchildren Scott (Elissa) McDaniels, Missy (Brian) Kloeckner, Jarred (Cody) and Jenna Spalsbury, great grandchildren Braeden McDaniels, Lilly and Cole Kloeckner, and Jayden and Brynnley Spalsbury, as well as sisters Agnes (Don) Nolan and Janet Zwan and their families, and extended family members in North Carolina. She is preceded in death by son Thomas, grandson Joshua Spalsbury, and brothers Eli and Sol Monsour. Visitation will be at Ho Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, MI, Sunday, January 1, 2012 4-7 pm with a vigil service pm and Monday, January 2, 2012 10 am until time of Funeral Mass 11 am at St. Michael Catholic Church, Grand Ledge, MI. Bruce Benedict Campbell, age 63, passed away unexpectedly on December 29, 2011. Bruce was born on October 8, 1948, in Bryn Mawr, PA to Malcolm and Pauline (Benedict) Campbell. He graduated from Brandeis University in 1969, and went on to receive a master of science from the Juilliard School and a doctor of philosophy from Yale University. He was an associate, 1985 professor to of 2010, music and theory, served at as Michigan organist and State music Univer- director at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in East Lansing for 17 years. He was also a composer, whose published works include music for band, orchestra, choir, and many solo instruments.

In addition to his work, Bruce had a passion for hiking, travelling, and bagpipe playing. He was an active member of the Glen Erin Pipe in Lansing, and had recently spent three months living and working in Scotland's Iona Community. He was preceded in death in 2008 by his father Malcolm. Surviving are his loving wife of 28 years, Sulin; daughters Melody and Fiona; sons Irvin and Andrew; mother Pauline Campbell; brother Scot (Melanie) Campbell and sister Ellen (Michael) Cooper; father-in-law and mother-in-law Suez (Ellin) Chen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law James (Lori) Chen; five nieces and five nephews. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 3 at 4:00 p.m.

at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1315 Abbot Road, East Lansing. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the church. He was born October 9, 1921, in Tescott, KS. He began working for Oldsmobile as a service rep in Abilene, KS, retiring as an executive in 1982, after 31 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed his time at his cottage on Otsego Lake in Gaylord, where he loved to play golf. Dale was an avid Spartan fan and was a life member of the Elks, and had been a Mason since 1952. The family expresses a special Thank You to the caregivers at Fairview Adult Foster Care where Dale had spent the last year.

He was preceded in death by 2 wives, Helen and Kathryn. Surviving are: son, David (Laura) Percival; daughter, Pamela (Terry) Taliaferro; 10 grandchildren, Jamie (Tom) Donovan, Michelle, Andrew (Melissa), Nicole, Kyle (Ashleigh), Kaitlyn, Claire and Matthew Percival, Brian Taliaferro and Jennifer (Clay) Cumiskey; 3 great-grandchildren, Travis and Jack Donovan and Caleb Cumiskey; 2 sisters, Cleo Richards and Dana Jackson. Stevens Delta Mills Mr. Joseph P. Stevens, age 80, away December 30, 2011 in Lansing, MI. He was born November 4, 1931 in Millett, MI, son to Eskie and Hildagrade (Stroh) Stevens. Joseph was a retired superintendent of engineering for Oldsmobile and also the Michigan National Guard.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict; was a member of Highland Hills Golf Club, and an avid bowler and gardener. Survivors include his 2 sons Mark (Tina) Stevens and Roger (Mary) Stevens all of Lansing, 1 daughter Julie (Jon) Williams of Perry; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 1 sister Edith Cole He is predeceased by his wife of 52 years Sandra (2009), and 2 brothers Arlin and Calvin Stevens. Hinman "Dee" 93, moved to a peaceful new home to be with her husband, Robert Hinman on December 28, 2011. Doryce was born in Lansing, MI on February 28, 1918.

She graduated from Lansing Central in 1935 and from MSC in 1939, Magna Cum Laude and a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She studied fashion illustration at Traphagen School of Fashion in New York City 1941. Doryce married Robert in 1942 and lived in Lansing before moving to Okemos in 1951. She has always loved the house her husband built for them to live in. Doryce was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in' Okemos.

Doryce has had a lifelong love of house plants and credits the hundreds of plants she had in their home with the long, healthy life of her husband and herself. She also had a love of creating art. The many sculptures and paintings in her home bear witness to her talents. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert of 67 years; father, Ed; mother, Claire; brothers, Ed and Rob; daughter, Marsha; and her granddaughter, Jennifer. Doryce is survived by her four children, Pam (Keith) Seales, Rhonda Howe, Bruce Hinman, Ross (Kathy) Hinman; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Jane Southwell.

Juanita enjoyed bingo, bunko, crocheting, painting ceramics and making Christmas ornaments. She loved cooking for her grandchildren and spending time with her family. Juanita also enjoyed camping with her family. She was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister and St.

Therese of Lansing. She is survived by 2 daughters; Guadalupe Ortiz of Elsie, MI, Juanita and Albert Trujillo of Bannister, MI, 2 sons; Phillip and Mary Quintela of Lansing, MI, Gilbert and Esther Quintela of San Diego, CA, 20 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Sydney Newcomb Clark Lansing Formerly of Howell. February 10, 1935 December 24, 2011. Sydney (Syd) Clark of Lansing died December 24, 2011. Syd grew up in Howell and graduated from Howell High School. After serving in the Army in France, he attended Lans- ing Community College for a degree in accounting.

Syd worked for the State of Michigan as a Warrant Officer for the Treasury Department, from which he retired in 1992. Syd was a member of the Howell Elks Club, on the Board of Directors for his condo association, a member of the Traveler's Protective Association, and was recognized for giving 1 117 units of blood to the American Red Cross in his lifetime. Syd is survived by his beloved children: Matthew Clark (Kelli) and Douglas Clark (Susan); five grandchildren: Haley, Sydney, Maxwell, Mia-Lynne and Jackson; niece Tacey Banks, nephew Timothy (Wanda) Hewlett, special friends, Mary and Travis Kulpa of Lansing, as well as many caring friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his parents, Esther and R. Sydney Clark and his sister, Rebecca Hewlett.

Courtnage Eaton Rapids Age 85 of Eaton Rapids passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte. Born September 2, 1926 in Waltham, Massachusetts; the daughter of Milton J. and Margarete (Venghaus) Hunter. She was a graduate of Michigan State University.

Mrs. Courtnage was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Eaton Rapids and Carmi, singing in the choir for many years. She was also active in local and state garden clubs and orchid societies. She had a passion for traveling both in the United States and internationally. Preceding her death were her William Courtnage in 1989; brother, Milton J.

Dorothy A. Mulford Lansing Age 103, passed away December 29, 2011. She was born on February 23, 1908, in Coe MI, the daughter of Artemas and Evangeline Mary Taylor. Dorothy was a longtime member of Pennway Church of God. She was a talented seamstress, sewing for all walks of life.

For many years she volunteered making lap robes for RSVP. Even with the loss of her vision, all of her crocheting was done bey memory. She is survived her husband of 64 years, David C. Mulford; children, Verlene (Gene) Ritter of East Lansing, Audalene (Ray) Dean of Port Orange, FL, and Diana (David) DeNike of Charlotte; 8 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; 4 great-greatgreat-grandchildren; brother, Artemas Taylor; and sister, Marvel Mathis. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lucille Crispin, and brother Charles Taylor.

Estes- -Leadleu 6) MID MICHIGAN'S FINEST Alfred H. Schmidt Williamston Born December 25, 1935 in Germany, son of Herman and Adoline Schmidt, passed away December 29, 2011 at the age of 76. Alfred immigrated to this country in 1952. He was employed by Lindell Drop Forge for many years and retired from Lake City Forge after many years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling and gardening and was an avid MSU basketball fan.

Al enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers. He was preceded in death by his parents. Joseph Sevenski Hudson Township Joseph Sevenski, 88, of Hudson Township, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011, in Hopkins, MI, surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was born February 4, 1923, in Hudson Township, son of Joseph and Blanche (Magee) Sevenski. On February 1, 1943, he joined the U.S. Army, serving until February 4, 1946.

Joseph married his sweetheart, Myrtle A. Pope, on May 24, 1947, in Lansing. He enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, farming, reading and building things. He liked watching Detroit Tigers, of football (Go and over the last several years became a big NASCAR and Matt Kenseth fan. Joseph loved his two dogs, Lacy and Tanner.

He worked at Lansing Drop Forge for more than forty years and was president of Local Union 724 for 22 years. After retiring to his 80 acres and log home, he became involved in Knights of Columbus, American Legion and V.F.W. Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Myrtle; children, Nancy (Terry) Thompson, Joseph Sevenski, Gerald Sevenski, Kim (Julie) Sevenski, Kenneth Sevenski, Tamara (Robert) stepdaughter, Jean (Paul) Flores; brother, William (Carol); sister-in-law, Della Sevenski; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren. preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Walter (Skeeter), and Dan; sisters, Clara (Bernie) and Virginia (Andy); two grandsons and one great-grandson. Visitation will take place 2-4 p.m.
