What is a passing score on Comsae? ›

Most schools will require students to pass a COMSAE with a score of 450 before being able to sit for COMLEX. The reason for this is because if you are able to pass a COMSAE with a significant amount of extra points (50 points in this example), then the likelihood of you passing COMLEX is relatively high.

Some questions include images or visual exhibits as attachments. In addition, the following forms contain one or more videos, most of which include audio requiring the use of headphones: Phase 1- ASA107b (COM form) and ASAi110b (student form); Phase 2- BSA107b (COM form) and BSAi108b (student form).

Each COMSAE examination consists of 200 questions presented in a format and structure similar to COMLEX-USA cognitive examinations.

Therefore, the best way to prepare for it is using COMLEX resources. This includes COMLEX question banks, study books, and taking practice COMSAEs. If you're using a question bank, make sure to take practice tests that consist of all Dimension I and Dimension II categories rather than focused tests.

A passing score of 400 is approximately equivalent to the 8th percentile, meaning that you must achieve a score that is better than the lowest 8% of all test takers. However, there is no definite way of telling what percentage of questions you need to answer correctly on this 352-question exam to pass.

Based on data from recent results of the COMLEX-USA examination, for level 1 and level 2, a score of 500-540 is considered the 50th percentile with scores falling slightly under and over this mark to be considered similarly. A score of 600 is historically considered to be around the 80th percentile.

COMSAE Phase 1: Second Attempt • Students who score 460 or greater on COMSAE Phase 1 on the second attempt will receive a “P” (Pass) grade for the Comprehensive Review Course (provided they have met all other course requirements) and will be allowed to sit for COMLEX Level 1 within the VCOM approved testing window.

Authorized 10-minute breaks

For all authorized breaks, candidates will be permitted access to their lockers for food, drink, medication, and other stored items, including electronic devices such as cell phones.

How many Comsaes are available? ›

COMSAE Phase 1 has one form available and COMSAE Phase 2 has two forms available for student purchase. Each examination form may be purchased more than once. These COMSAE forms are available to osteopathic medical students only. COMSAE Phase 3 has one form that is available to residents and/or their program directors.

The thresholds for passing each exam are as follows: COMLEX Passing Score: 400. USMLE Passing Score: 194 (in general, this translates to approximately 60% of questions correct)

COMLEX Level 1 is Going Pass/Fail!

This change is similar to the switch to pass/fail scoring for the USMLE Step 1 that is planned by the NBME for 2021. This change will continue the parallel organization of both the COMLEX and the USMLE.

COMLEX Level 1 is an incredibly difficult exam, and perhaps more daunting than test day is the weeks and months leading up to it. I hope that what I've mentioned here helps in some way to calm your nerves, but also to convince you to take action now to start making a study plan.

Most candidates score between 250 and 800. 400 is the minimum passing score for COMLEX-USA Levels 1 and 2; 350 for COMLEX-USA Level 3.

If the student fails to achieve the required score on their third COMSAE Phase 1 exam, they are required to meet with an academic counselor and the Assistant Dean for years 1 and 2. They are required to attend an immersion course for board preparation at their own expense.
