179+tax Euros or 12000 Points to Stay at Le Méridien Barcelona?
I have stayed at this property before and I like it a lot, so I have no questions in that regard. What I'm a novice at is booking with starpoints. I've been slowly accumulating them over a few years now (because I usually stay at Hilton properties), but have not spent any of those starpoints. Thus, I don't have a feel for what a point is worth. Here are my options:
179+tax Euros or 12000* starpoints
Advice?
*Twelve thousand points is the total I have, and I don't accumulate new points fast, so please that keep in mind.

a tough 1 , but I dont see using the pts as getting the best bang for them in this case with the rate so low, but I dont like spending $200US for a room either.
Its not in the same area doesnt the Hilton have anything avaialble?
I prefer to use my hoard of SPG for C&P or 4 nights get the 5th free
Did you look at BFT or BB to see what Hotels people have been winning on PL? and at what cost! If cheap enough when in this position where IMO its not worth blowing the pts and the rate is more then I want to pay , I play the PL game, even if I cant know for sure Id get the Hotel Id ideally want as long as its the same type and in the same arae that works for me

179 euro+tax= about USD 250 ( Flying Lawyer number is correct, based on today's exchange rate).
USD 250/12000 points = 0.02 Cents/point.
now you have to answer this question. how much do you value 1 starpoint?
some people are happy with 0.02, some people value it at 0.03 cents/point etc..
personally i find 0.02 cents/point is low so if i were you i would pay cash and save the points for a better redemption value.

If Cash & Points is available for your stay, that's usually the best bang for the buck. Otherwise, you just need to look at your financial situation and figure out what else you'd use the points for if you don't use them here.
